Fiber Channel Solutions - Call PBM IT at (888) 233-6471Q. What systems in a data center should be maintained on an ongoing basis? A. All the supporting systems in a data center face heavy loads and must be properly maintained to continue operating satisfactorily. These systems include cooling, humidification, air handling, power distribution, backup power generation and much more. Per-rack power requirements constrain the number of racks a data center can support. A typical 10,000 - 20,000 sq. ft. facility designed for 50 - 100 watts/sq. ft requires 1/2 megawatt to 2 megawatts of power. Availability and cost of utility power in the megawatt range is expensive and difficult to obtain. Supporting infrastructure - generators, ATS, UPS, and distribution equipment - also are costly. Careful planning and growth projections must be maintained to ensure power requirements can be met. Develop a dashboard of data center energy-efficient metrics that provide appropriate data to different levels of IT and financial management. Most line of business managers take for granted 100 percent IT up time, instant access to trained support personnel, uninterrupted access to data, and are dependent on top-flight management of IT assets in data centers. Network virtualization is a method of combining the available resources in a network by splitting up the available bandwidth into channels, each of which is independent from the others, and each of which can be assigned (or reassigned) to a particular server or device in real time. While virtualization faded from the limelight for a while, it is now one of the hottest trends in the industry again, as organizations aim to increase the utilization, flexibility and cost-effectiveness in a distributed computing environment. VMWare, Citrix, Microsoft, IBM, RedHat and many other vendors offer virtualization solutions. To qualify as a true enterprise solution, a storage management system must be able to scale across the entire enterprise. This means it must be able to handle multiple servers spread across wide geographical areas. The solution should further leverage technologies such as clustering and load balancing to support hundreds or even thousands of client computers. It also must support various network infrastructures and firewall configurations. The Cisco UCS integrates low-latency unified network fabric with enterprise-class, x86-based servers, creating an integrated, scalable, multichassis platform in which all resources participate in a unified management domain. A single system scales to up to 40 chassis, 320 compute nodes, and thousands of virtual machines. Building green IT systems do come with an added cost. These systems do need to take into account the overall short and long term sustainability, the total cost of ownership and the costs of safe recycling and disposal. But when used with efficient and effective policies, the return on investment can be much greater for the organization, employees and the community. The disk drive array may include 12 drives. Each of the first, second and third groups of disk drives may include 4 disk drives. The selected data may be stored on a first disk driveincluded in the first group of disk drives, a second disk drive included in the second group of disk drives and a third and fourth disk drive included in the third group of disk drives. The selected data may include boot code for each of the first andsecond storage processors. The boot code for the first storage processor may be stored on the first disk drive and the third disk drive and the boot code for the second storage processor is stored on the second disk drive and the fourth disk drive. The Cisco Nexus 5010 Switch foundation is built upon High-performance 10 Gigabit Ethernet, Data Center Ethernet, Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), and Virtual-machine-optimized networking. |
